Key Data

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. To maintain an up to date picture of attainment we follow an assessment calendar which includes half termly or termly assessment of phonics, reading, writing and maths. We use these assessments to inform subsequent learning, including intervention planning where appropriate, as part of our ‘keep up, don’t catch up’ approach.

Foundation Stage

In EYFS, we baseline all pupils on arrival, in line with the DfE statutory requirements. This data is not published, and instead is used to monitor progress for pupils once they reach Year 6.

Pupils are assessed on an ongoing basis throughout EYFS, with half-termly summaries subject to team discussion, moderation, analysis and reporting to school leaders.

The purpose of half termly assessment and team discussion is to develop a clear appreciation of required pupil progress and the needs of all pupils across the phase within the coming half term, so that planning can be shaped to facilitate learning.

KS1

In KS1, we assess pupils termly using various assessments including Rocket Phonics and from the Summer term in Year 1 we use NFER assessments termly. These tests are analysed and used to inform next steps for pupils.

We also assess Year 1 pupils using the Phonics Screening Check at the end of Year 1. This is a test designed to check pupils’ decoding ability, based on 20 real and 20 ‘alien’ words. Pupils must achieve a score of 32 to pass this. Any pupils who do not achieve this standard resit the check at the end of Year 2.

In addition to these assessments, we monitor pupils through ongoing teacher assessment, which is used to inform day to day learning.

Year 1 phonics 70% 64% 78%
Year 2 Phonics 89% 71% 60%

KS2

In KS2, we assess pupils termly using NFER assessments in Reading, Maths and SPAG. These tests are analysed and used to inform next steps for pupils. We also assess Year 6 pupils, using the DfE statutory KS2 end of year assessments.

Any pupils who have not achieved the standard in the Phonics Screening Check by the end of Year 2 are closely tracked and monitored throughout KS2, until they achieve the expected standard.

In Y4, children take a Multiplication Times Table test as per all schools Nationally.

In addition to these assessments, we monitor pupils through ongoing teacher assessment, which is used to inform day to day learning.
