At Victoria Primary Academy, we passionately promote diversity and inclusion and we are incredibly proud of all the vibrant cultures represented within our school community. To celebrate our unique backgrounds and foster a lasting spirit of unity, we regularly host activities designed to promote tolerance, cultural sensitivity and a deeper understanding of the world we share. One of these that we are most proud of is Diversity Week. Across the school, our classes complete dedicated work to explore different traditions, while our playground leaders host games from various cultures and specially curated playlists of gorgeous global music fill the air at lunchtime.
We love to bring history and tradition to life through interactive experiences. We welcomed fantastic groups like Africa Reborn to run workshops with our students. Guided by an African storyteller, this immersive experience placed pupils at the heart of the story to bring the richness, resilience and rhythm of African and Caribbean heritage to life. This wonderful session transformed our children into confident storytellers while beautifully celebrating multicultural theatre and heritage.
Our celebrations always include plenty of creativity, such as our students decorating flags to create beautiful bunting to adorn the school hall. We also encourage children and staff to wear culturally significant clothing that represents what is most important to them during this week. Whether this is religious attire, traditional dress or a favourite football kit, it is a joy to showcase what makes our school so special. We even celebrate through food by offering special menus that provide a taste of our diverse world, featuring delicious options like spaghetti bolognese, halal chicken curry and vegetarian quesadillas.
Community is at the heart of everything we do, which is why we warmly invited our parents to join us for relaxing and creative sessions like rangoli colouring and origami. We are always looking for ways to celebrate our diverse world together and we remain dedicated to making every single family feel at home at Victoria Primary Academy.
