At Victoria Primary Academy we know that a child’s emotional health and wellbeing is a vital foundation for their learning and development. When children feel safe, happy and understood they are ready to learn and grow. We view pastoral care as a natural part of our daily routines, ensuring every child feels known and valued from the moment they arrive.
Our approach is built on consistent and meaningful interactions. Every morning begins with a dedicated check-in with our staff on the doors. This gives us the chance to greet our pupils, see how they are feeling and set a positive tone for the day ahead. This care continues once lessons begin, with our teachers and support staff carrying out wellbeing checks throughout the school day. This awareness means we can be responsive to our children’s needs, stepping in to support anyone who might be having a difficult time or just needs a moment of reassurance.
To ensure we provide the right level of care we have trained Mental Health First Aiders situated across the school building. Support is always available should a child require it. Alongside this our dedicated Learning Support Mentors are on hand for children who might need extra guidance, a listening ear or a quiet space to regulate their emotions. They work closely with our pupils to build their confidence and help them overcome emotional barriers to their learning.
By embedding these practical steps into school life we ensure that wellbeing is a reality in our classrooms and corridors at Victoria Primary Academy. Underpinning this daily support is a gentle focus on the five ways to wellbeing, encouraging our children to connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give to others. It is simply the way we support and care for our school community every day.
