Oracy

Oracy Vision Statement: Empowering Voices, Transforming Futures

At Victoria Primary Academy, our vision is to transform oracy from a classroom activity into a lifelong skill. We recognise that vocabulary is the gatekeeper to success; therefore, we are committed to an education where every student is explicitly taught the language they need to unlock their potential.

Our Core Pillars

  • Explicit vocabulary and confidence: we aim to bridge the word gap by embedding high-quality oracy instruction into the heart of our curriculum. We want our students to not only speak but to speak with purpose, precision and the self-assurance to express their unique perspectives.
  • Empowered educators: we believe that impactful oracy starts with teacher expertise. Through the Voice 21 framework, we are building a culture where staff have the training, confidence and planning tools to facilitate high-quality talk in every lesson.
  • Rapid impact for a mobile community: in a school where journeys often begin and end at different times, we prioritise immediate impact. We ensure that from day one, students gain the tools to integrate, communicate and thrive.
  • Active listening: our vision extends beyond the individual. We are cultivating a community of respect where students are as skilled at listening and valuing the opinions of others as they are at articulating their own.

The Goal

To ensure that when a student leaves our school – whether after one term or seven years – they carry with them the verbal agency to navigate the world, advocate for themselves and contribute meaningfully to society.
